On May 25, 2023, with 99 votes in favor, 54 against, and 2 abstentions, the Senate, in a vote of confidence, approved the text of the Bollette Decree without amendments.
The article contained in the decree, which came into force on May 30, is 15-ter and provides for three new provisions for dentists, one of which closely concerns the field of aesthetic medicine.
The decree redefines the scope and practice of cosmetic dentistry, removing the limitations that until recently limited their practice to the middle and lower thirds of the face, and thus extending their expertise and the legitimacy of non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures to the upper third of the face.
Various professionals and companies immediately launched initiatives to oppose the government’s decision.
In light of the aforementioned legislative changes and acknowledging the transformation of the regulatory framework, Medical Aesthetic nonetheless wishes to emphasize and reiterate in this context that the specific training of the specialist whether a physician or dentist and their staff remains a fundamental element for patient safety and must continue to be the primary focus of every treatment.
