It is with sincere pleasure that I have agreed to present this very interesting volume dedicated to Aesthetic Medicine in Dentistry, the latest prestigious work by my friend Alessio Redaelli.
I met Alessio in 2008, when the Master’s program in Oral and Perioral Tissue Aesthetics in Dentistry was launched in Padua. The preparation and immense passion that Alessio has demonstrated on numerous occasions are crowned by this work, which promises to be an indispensable aid in the training of the modern dentist. The increasing quality and life expectancy of the population, with the resulting prolonged need for social life, even among the elderly, has resulted in a growing demand for comprehensive aesthetic results that are not limited solely to optimal dental restoration but also address the overall aesthetics of the perioral tissues.
Hence the need for dentists to understand the possibilities and limitations of cosmetic surgery as a complement to their work.
Finally, I believe special praise should be given to the guiding principle expressed by Dr. Redaelli, according to which learning about the potential of these techniques is not intended to be an invitation to dentists to “change professions,” but, on the contrary, should serve as a stimulus for interdisciplinary collaboration between dentistry and aesthetic surgeons/physicians, which has become indispensable for anyone who wants to offer their patients the best possible results.
