Medical rhinoplasty – basic principles and clinical practice (3rd edition)

The number of cosmetic procedures performed worldwide is constantly increasing in both surgical and non-surgical aesthetic surgery. According to the annual statistical report published by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS, statistics 2020), medical rhinoplasty was ranked among the five most frequently performed aesthetic surgical procedures in 2020. In addition, medical rhinoplasty is the only TOP 5 procedure that has maintained its steady growth and an increase in numbers since 2014. This increase in procedures performed worldwide not only reflects the high demand, but also reflects the increased knowledge and skills of the rhinoplasty community. The emergence of soft tissue fillers and their potential for a minimally invasive nasal aesthetic procedure has substantially opened up accessibility for “rinomodulation”, “profiloplasty”, “nasal sculpture” or “liquid rhinoplasty”. Despite the significantly smaller aesthetic range of non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures, the knowledge and skills required are substantial and should not be underestimated. Concepts of beauty, three-dimensional anatomy and age-related changes must be taken into account when aiming for superior and lasting aesthetic results.
The doctors Redaelli and Braccini have summarized and expanded the current knowledge in this field in the third edition of their excellent work: Medical Rhinoplasty. Reading page after page will open the doors to a new and unknown aspect of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic nasal treatments.
