Aesthetic Medicine in Dentistry (2nd Edition)

As is known, Law No. 409 of 24 July 1985 (Establishment of the healthcare profession of dentistry and provisions relating to the right of establishment and the freedom to provide services by dentists who are citizens of member states of the European Communities) was recently amended in Article 2 (Legislative Decree 34/2023).
The following words have been added to the second paragraph of the aforementioned article: “They may practice non-invasive or minimally invasive aesthetic medicine on the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the face.”
Undoubtedly, this change significantly expands the clinical capabilities of dentists, who can rightfully be considered, while maintaining the characteristics of non-invasiveness or minimally invasiveness, the healthcare professional who deals – among other things – with the aesthetics of the face in its entirety. It is therefore a pleasure and an honor for me to present this text, which is specifically aimed at dentists and allows them to acquire the theoretical skills to also operate on the upper third of the face.
The topics covered are varied: from anatomy to clinical and aesthetic analysis of the face, from the use of specific medical techniques to combat facial aging to the treatment of the gummy smile, with many clinical cases illustrating the methods used. The author has thirty years of experience and is considered one of the world’s leading experts in this field, successfully teaching a discipline that is not easy to perform in a simple and effective manner. I wish my fellow dentists a pleasant read and I am sure they will be fascinated by the topics covered.
